Do you feel your feet?
The aim of the Feldenkrais Method is a person that is organized to move with minimum effort and maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength, but through increased consciousness of how movement works.
~Moshe Feldenkrais
For any musician, the body is an instrument itself, used to play the musical instrument. It is just as important to develop good body awareness as it is to master the instrument and express one’s musical ideas and emotions through it. Dynamic Integration supports all of these facets and can also significantly influence your pedagogical approach.
In addition to body awareness, I really appreciate the philosophy of non-judgment. This alone has a calming and balancing effect on both the mind and body. Simply lying on the floor, playfully exploring movements and possibilities without competition—without right or wrong, without imitation—is a truly liberating experience. The floor provides the necessary feedback, and you’re free to interpret the spoken words as you understand them. This gives you, as an individual, the opportunity to develop a stronger sense of self.
Finally, living in the 21st century, it seems even more crucial to take time to explore and learn about the body and our emotions. Body awareness and the art of observation help us become more conscious of the body, teaching us to recognize when we are fully present. With all the distractions and speed around us, we need to dedicate time and loving attention to our bodies—after all, they are the vehicles for this lifetime on Earth. Learning is, in fact, a never-ending journey, and as I grow older, I find myself becoming better at listening. Today, it feels as though my body is now teaching me.
